Description

The F15 three-element airfoil (released as FNG by Airbus) has been investigated in the DLR project LEISA (Low noise exposing integrated design for start and approach, 2005-2008), which combined and focused activities in the research areas of high lift system design, flow control and aero-acoustic design methods.

Flow Parameters

Onflow conditions are Ma=0.15 and Re=2.094Mio, where Re is related to the (retracted) chord length of c=0.6 m.

Mandatory simulation settings require an angle of attack of α=6° and fully-turbulent flow modelling (i.e. no laminar regions / transition locations).

Measured pressure distributions from wind-tunnel experiments are provided for an (uncorrected) angle of attack of α=7.05°, which roughly corresponds to α=6° in farfield conditions (according to RANS computations). However, due to the numerous experimental uncertainties (3D wind-tunnel effects, transition locations, ...), we suggest NOT to use the experimental data for validating simulations with the mandatory settings.
