Editing the Go4Hybrid Web Pages
General Editing Comments
Most pages can be edited by any registered user. To edit a page, simply click on the
Edit
tab at the top of a page, or the
Edit
link at the bottom. If you do not have permission to edit it a message will appear to that effect; otherwise the text (and sometimes a form) will appear in an edit window. Plain text can often simply be entered as is. Formatting for text, headings, bullet points, tables, etc can be done using TWiki Shorthand or, if you prefer, using standard html tags.
When editing a page, you may find the table of
text formatting commands useful. If your browser supports it, the editing window will have rows of buttons above and below it which can be used to insert many common formatting elements by simply clicking the appropriate button. The
WYSIWYG
link for editing pages can also be used in supported browsers, but is not recommended for complex pages.
Having edited a page you can click on the
Preview
button at the bottom of the page to check how it will appear. You can then either click the
Save
button to save the updates, or the back button on your browser to return to editing the page. If things go really wrong you can use the
History
links at the bottom of a page to see earlier revisions of a page.
Page Location and Linking
If you create a new page by, for example, using a
WikiWord in the text and then clicking on the resulting link to edit the page, this will also be created in the
ATAAC web. If you want to refer to a page in another web, the name of the web must be included in the link. eg.
WebHome links to the home page of the current web;
Main.WebHome links to the home page of the Go4Hybrid web.
URL's can simply be typed in to provide hyperlinks (eg.
http://www.manchester.ac.uk). Square brackets can be used to generate more descriptive links: [[http://www.manchester.ac.uk][Manchester University]] will appear as
Manchester University, and [[Main.WebHome]][Go4Hybrid Web]] will link to the home page of the Go4Hybrid web, but appear as
Go4Hybrid Web.
Including pictures
Pictures, in formats such as gif, png, jpg can be uploaded and included on web pages. There are two stages to the process:
- Use the
Attach
link at the bottom on a page to upload the file as an attachment to the current page.
- Insert code in the text of your page to display the picture.
A very simple way of including a picture on a page is by using the command
%ATTACHURL%/picture.gif
(where
picture.gif
is the picture file that has been attached to the topic). Details can be found on
FileAttachment.
Better control of placement, size, caption, etc can be obtained by using the
%Image{}%
command included in the
Image Plugin.
Including other attachments
Other files (eg. pdfs) can also be attached to topics, and references made to them. The general format is as above for simple attachment of pictures. Further details and examples can be found in
FileAttachment.
Writing equations
Equations can be typeset in pages using Latex commands. Use
%$ a=b+c $%
to include an inline equation as %$ a=b+c $%, and
%\[ a=b+c \]%
to include the displayed equation %\[ a=b+c \]% More details and examples are in
LatexModePlugin.
